I always fantasized about having a twin. The Pat O’Sullivan to my Isabelle O’Sullivan. The Fred to my George (though without losing my twin to a heroic cause). Someone who’d give the world a double dose of my pure, unadulterated awesomeness, my amazing brainpower who remains by the side as humankind fights against totally legitimate enemies like overpriced high-end clothes (hello, cheap knock-offs). Someone who’d give the world a piece of my hilarious sense of humour. And of course, my much-needed modesty (me praising myself was totally not narcissistic, okay, like, totes not).

Moving on from me, though, 1 of every 67 births is twins. So having a twin is almost a miracle. Almost. Having a twin who was born in a different year, though? Well, that’s a miracle.

The year 2016 decided to start with that very same miracle. This miracle occurred in San Diego (America) when mother Mirabel gave birth to beautiful baby twins Jaelyn and Luis, and we’re all happy here; after all, yet another happy couple has been blessed with the miracle of life. The clincher, though? The twins were born in different years.

Before you ask, no, Mirabel did not face any complications. She did not end up getting a baby stuck in her stomach for a year. She didn’t have to be put on anesthesia for a year or anything as she struggled to get a baby out. None of that scary stuff happened. She very simply went into labour at an extremely opportune time.

Let me elaborate.

Baby Jaelyn was born in the last minute of New Year’s Eve of 2016, and her brother Luis was born in the first few minutes of the year 2016. So technically, we have Jaelyn, born in 2015 and Luis, who was born in 2016. This will basically make up for Jaelyn’s ‘I’m older and wiser than you’ taunts you know Luis will have coming towards him to a whole new level.

The fact that they were born on different days, in different years, might make things a little complicated for parents Mirabel and Luis, though. Different birthdays will lead to, well…different birthday parties. I’m thinking of becoming friends with the family just to get invited to both their parties.

“Maribel really wanted to have the babies on the same day because you know later on in the years, they’re going to have a little confrontation and be like, ‘my birthday came first,’ so it means two birthday parties, back to back,” Dad Luis told the press.

Mom Mirabel and the twins are all healthy. Dad Luis calls this a New Year’s miracle.

It’s nice when stuff like this happens. When real ‘miracles’ happen. You could call it a coincident, but maybe because I’m still in the spirit of the new year and all that renewed sense of hope, I’m gonna go with a miracle.

So let’s start 2016 with a miracle, with the idea that maybe we’re not just put through random occurrences. Maybe there really is a plan.

And yes, I do often read this much into pieces of news.
