Many of us tend to have a nice ice bath after a strenuous workout, but little do we know that this muscle strain relieving activity can be very harmful to our bodies. In fact, instead of allowing you to relax, an ice bath may restrict muscle gain and reduce the strength and mass of your muscles according to recent studies.
The study was conducted at the University of Queensland in Australia and Llion Roberts, the head researcher stated that taking ice baths leads to the disruption of long-term muscle gains and drastically reduces the strength and mass of muscles over a period. The study was conducted on 21 men who were divided into two groups. While one group of men used to cool themselves through ice baths after exercise regimens, the others would perform light exercise or cycle to release the stress.
The studies found out that are is a noticeable difference between these two groups. The men who took ice baths had weaker muscle tissues than those who did not.
