Stem Cell Research : a term full of controversies.
At some point of life we all must have wondered what stem cell is? Why there are so many controversies associated with it and so on.
Especially we wonder about it when we see the advertisement featuring the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan saying “dijiye apne bachche ko zindagi bhar ka tohfa”.
This article features the pros of stem cell research and will try to transform the mentality of people to praise and adopt this research and help to save the lives of their near and dear ones.
Lets start with the meaning of stem cell:
The formal definition of stem cell as given by the scholarly scientists is:
“A TSC is an undifferentiated cell, capable of proliferation, self-renewal, production of a large number of differentiated functional progeny, regenerating tissue after injury and a flexibility in the use of these options.”
The basic theme of stem cell is to rejuvenate the power of creation of new cells of particular organs. Stem cells are basically found at the umbilical cord which is the attachment point of mother and foetus. The idea is to imbibe those cells at the time of birth and preserve them for the future in order to keep oneself healthy.
This research is not new. This is been practiced since 1998 and since then itself, the research is in continuous debate.
The debate is mainly concerned with embryonic stem cell. The counterparts of this research say that there is a destruction of embryos during this research, which is ethically incorrect for the human race.
Another argument commonly made keeping in mind the religious perspective is that, there is a belief that god has sent everyone down to earth and he has complete right upon our lives and any interruption in this would be equivalent to insulting him. The argument is basically concerned with keeping the things in accordance with the natural cycle of life and death.
Some experts oppose this argument because technically we have already exceeded the limit to which mother earth can feed us by implementation of this kind of research which may lead to extensive scarcity of resources. Researches have shown that we will reach about 9 billion in 2020 i.e we will be exceeding by 2 billion which is quite large number.
I do admit the fact that the disadvantages are to be taken under consideration, which may or may not be right but at the end of the day it’s all about the family or the loved ones who actually bring the eternal happiness and a smiling curve of our face.
So look at the brighter side of life and be happy with all those dear people who were always and will always stand by your side and support life.
The choice is all yours. You can choose the ideologies of the religious domain and experts or you can save the stem cell to save your children from incurable diseases.
