Porn ban

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has mentioned in a set of tweets that the government is acting regressive by banning porn websites and that it is never going to be a valid solution to prevent sex crimes. He believes that the people are being deprived of their personal freedom and if nothing else, if anything is banned it will keep gaining strength underground.

Chetan Bhagat chimed and remarked that instead of banning porn the government should ‘ban’ the acts of ogling, raping and molesting. He believes it is non-consent that needs to be banned, not sex. The ban did not come into the limelight until many users found out that pornographic websites stopped working and they were redirected to blank pages instead.

Director Onir tweeted that, by the Government’s logic the Kama Sutra should be banned too because it promotes ‘unnatural sex’. While the Government did state the the porn ban was temporary pending the judgment of the Supreme Court, the action of the Government was purely intentional as the Court had given no directions for the porn ban.
