Gadgets surround us. Wherever we go, whatever we do, we need a gadget by our side. Be it mobile phones, tablets or any other electronic device, we cannot imagine our day without the help of these gadgets. There has always been a debate on whether gadgets are a boon or a bane to the society. While one set of people consider them a boon, there are many who consider it a bane. Some people feel that we are way too dependent on our gadgets and feel handicapped without them.
Nowadays, we usually get many hours of entertainment by sitting on our sofa in front of the television, commonly known as the Idiot Box. This makes us extremely lazy. In the past, when people got bored, they used to engage in some outdoor activities or go out for work. However, this practice is long gone. With the advancements in technology, the time that we spend with our loved ones has greatly reduced. We check up on them without actually checking up on them. All we do is text them and that is usually the only form of conversation we have with them. No more family dinners together, people prefer to surf the net or watch movies rather than hang out with their family and friends. Another common practice is the use of online bookstores. No more libraries and real-time bookstores. We get all the books that we need online and download them. Gone are the days when people used to search through piles of books for the book they want. Gadgets are extremely popular for causing health problems. Our vision is the first thing that is affected. This happens when we stare at the computer screens for too long. Many kids also get addicted to their gadgets. Other problems include insomnia, obesity, hearing problems, just to name a few.
There are numerous positives too. One most important advantage is the availability of information on our fingertips. If we have a doubt or are stuck with a problem, all you need is a phone to get out of the problem. Technology, as a whole, has improved the productivity of every industry. The field of education has also greatly benefited from the advancements in technology. Now, students need not carry heavy books. All they need is a tablet that has all the information related to their subjects. Gadgets also help you with your health goals. Now, you get the number of calories that you burn after one session of workout. The advantages of using gadgets just goes on and on.
Gadgets, when used properly, are a boon, however, when used inappropriately can cause serious problems. We get quick fixes to problems that would have been impossible without gadgets. However, there is a growing concern whether these gadgets are making us lazy. We feel helpless when the battery of your phone dies or a gadget starts to malfunction. It is good to depend on our gadgets for informational needs but overdependence can lead to more harm than good.
